One

The monk passes by
Unexplained
Quiet
Breathing
Smiling
Serving
Praying

The help is
Observing
Wondering
Questioning
Touched

“I am in wonder, he says
How can I help?”
He questions

He stretches his bowl for a little food
But he is not there to eat
Something greater happens
Wisdom is taught
Both monk and helper learn
The monk is given the opportunity
to eat and to teach
The helper is given the opportunity
to help and to teach
Both learn and teach.

The moment comes
When the bowl, the monk and the server become one

I can neither identify
Monk, pot, server or food
They are one

For the sake of the Way
They all need to be there:

A mouth to be fed
A hand to help
A pot to measure
The food they become

What is that they look for?

The mouth which is fed
The hand which helps
The bowl that measures
The food which gives them
The great opportunity to be
One

I smile in awe
How can such a simple gesture
Turn the whole world around?
The monk who needs to go on
And change the world with his own life of dedication, silence, isolation, patience, tolerance and prayer
Learn something from a humble server?

How can a humble server learn
From a monk who teaches the Way
In silence?
There lies the mystery:
They are the bowl and the food.
They are One
